When I started the project to run all bridges of Stockholm, I wasn’t sure if it made any sense or if I ever would manage to run the bridges. Some of the bridges were so far that it had been years since I last time had run so long distances.

I guess the main question is: was the project worth doing? I think so. There are multiple reasons why so.

First, let’s check stats

  • 58 unique bridges crossed
  • tens of runs
  • hundreds of kilometers

For a runner like me, these are quite big numbers. I think this already justifies the project.

During the project I learned a lot about Stockholm and saw and experienced cool places I wouldn’t have visited otherwise. I definitely wouldn’t have run e.g. to Lidingö or to Sickla without the project.

The bridge collecting runs contributed naturally to my running training. Having an excuse to go out and run gave a extra motivation boost.

Since I crossed all the bridges and logged them with name, I had to find out the names of them. I used two sources, Google Maps and Wikipedia. I used the Swedish names for the bridges, so I ended up reading the Swedish Wikipedia articles of the bridges. I learned a lot about the history of the individual bridges and at the same time about bridges in general (I didn’t know that drawbridge is actually called bascule bridge) and about Stockholm history (why Barnhusbron is so high).
